Update – January 5:
Our drinking water professionals are continuing to address the unpleasant taste and odor issue caused by historically high levels of MIB, a naturally occurring compound associated with algae, in our drinking water reservoirs. We are using our Advanced Oxidation System and fine-tuning traditional treatment methods to address the problem.
Our staff are drawing water samples directly from our water sources and sending that data to consultants to find the potential cause for the rise in MIB levels.
While we continue to investigate the cause of these elevated levels, we want to clearly reassure our customers: your drinking water remains safe and meets all regulatory standards and we are seeing improvement as treated water continues to move through the distribution system.
Beginning January 1, 2025, Spartanburg Water will implement new water and sewer rates for both base and volume charges. The Commission of Public Works and the Spartanburg Sanitary Sewer District both voted to adopt small, incremental rate increases for the next three years. With these rate changes we can remain fiscally responsible, while continuing to provide industry leading water and wastewater services to our ever-growing community.
The rates adopted are on a calendar year schedule.
2025 Water Rates (Both Volume and Base Charges)
The rate change equates to an increase of approximately $1.79 for Inside-City Customers and $3 for Outside City Customers, with a 5/8" meter and typical monthly use of 5,600 gallons.
2025 Sewer Rates (Both Volume and Base Charges)
The rate change equates to an increase of approximately $1.96 for customers with a 5/8" meter and typical monthly flow of 5,600 gallons.
