The R.B Simms Drinking Water Treatment Plant also earned a competitive ranking
SPARTANBURG – Spartanburg Water’s Landrum Drinking Water Treatment Plant has been awarded “Best Tasting Water” in South Carolina at the recent, annual South Carolina Environmental Conference hosted in Myrtle Beach, S.C., from March 15 – 18.
The Spartanburg Water R.B. Simms Drinking Water Treatment Facility also received fourth in the state, with both Spartanburg Water facilities competing against a large group of 14 drinking water utilities from across South Carolina.
“This recognition reflects the skill, pride, and commitment of the men and women who work every day to provide our community with safe, reliable, and exceptional drinking water,” said John Montgomery, Chairman of the Commission of Public Works for the City of Spartanburg. “Their work often happens behind the scenes, but its impact is felt by every resident and business we serve.”
Both facilities were selected in a blind taste test judged by water professionals from across the United States and Canada.
“Winning the ‘Best Tasting Water’ honor speaks to the culture of excellence across our drinking water team,” said Spartanburg Water Director of Drinking Water Services, Ken Tuck. “From the operators running the plant, to the laboratory staff verifying quality and the maintenance crews keeping equipment performing at its best, it takes a coordinated effort to deliver water of this standard.”
The Landrum facility will accompany other first place winners from both the United States and Canada to compete for overall best tasting water in North America at the 2026 American Water Works Association’s (AWWA) ACE Conference, to be held in Washington, D.C.
“I’m proud of the teamwork and professionalism that made this achievement possible,” said Spartanburg Water Chief Executive Officer, Guy Boyle. “I am always the first to tell anyone who will listen that our Spartanburg Water team and the services they provide are essential to the quality of life that our community enjoys. The men and women water professionals at Spartanburg Water provide the foundation that helps keep a community functioning and public health and the environment protected. It is an honor and privilege to work alongside them to serve our community and its residents.”
