Storm water that is unfiltered by a natural buffer and runs off directly into the reservoirs may contain numerous pollutants. These pollutants affect the drinking water for our community. The types of pollutants we are concerned about are grease and oil from driveways and roadways, pet waste and herbicides and fertilizers applied to lawn and vegetation. The pollution entering the lake may cause the algae to grow more rapidly and bloom. The pollution added to the drinking water reservoirs also increases the cost to all rate payers to treat the water.
