Spartanburg Water Proactively Addressing Geosmin in Lake Bowen and Reservoir #1

With warmer weather approaching in the next two months, we are focused on proactively addressing algae levels, before water temperatures rise significantly.

As part of this focus on preventative algae treatment for taste and odor causing algae in our reservoirs, specific areas of Lake Bowen and Municipal Reservoir #1 will receive algaecide applications over two days, beginning February 23.

This method of preventative maintenance has been shown to help defend against taste and odor causing algae growth, and gives us a head start to prevent elevated levels of Geosmin – components of algae that can cause taste and odor issues, particularly beginning in the spring time.

Thank you for your continued support in helping us deliver the highest quality drinking water services to our community.
