Glendalyn Avenue waterline rehabilitation moves into final phase

October 29, 2018

As part of Spartanburg Water’s aging infrastructure replacement program, Spartanburg Water is replacing the existing waterline on Glendalyn Avenue from the intersection from South Pine Street to Mills Avenue. The piping on Glendalyn Avenue dates back to the late 1880’s and is reaching the end of its useful life.

All residential water services on Glendalyn Avenue between Mills and Pine Streets are expected to be switched over to the new waterlines and road patching completed on the residential portion of the project by Wednesday, October 31.

To complete the work on the final section of the waterline rehabilitation project, the northbound lanes of South Pine Street, at the intersection of Glendalyn Avenue, will be barricaded and closed to all traffic from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. beginning Sunday, November 4. The evening South Pine Street closure will last approximately one week, weather permitting. Evening traffic traveling north on South Pine Street during construction will be shifted to the median. All lanes on South Pine Street will be open during daylight hours.

Traffic control devices will be in place on East Henry Street as well. Traffic on East Henry will be diverted north or south on South Pine Street with a detour established on Palmetto Street for those needing to return to Mills Avenue. Residents on Glendalyn Avenue within the work zone will be allowed access from Mills Avenue.

Spartanburg Water realizes the closure of South Pine Street will be disruptive, but it will provide the safest environment for the traveling public and for Spartanburg Water employees while working to replace this aging infrastructure. An alternate route during peak traffic hours is suggested.
