January 25, 2017

LYMAN – A Spartanburg Water maintenance coordinator was selected for recognition by the Water Environment Association of South Carolina (WEASC) recently. David Cantrell, a longtime employee of the utility, was awarded the Blue Ridge Foothills District Maintenance Operator of the Year for 2016 at an awards banquet on January 10.

This award is given annually for excellence in the maintenance of a water and/or wastewater system in South Carolina.

“David, in his current position as Above-Ground-Maintenance Coordinator, has demonstrated his desire to be successful by his dedication to the task of operating and maintaining all electrical and mechanical facilities associated with the Collection and Distribution Systems for Spartanburg Water,” said Bobby Walden, Spartanburg Water Director of Water Collection and Distribution. “He is directly involved, from conception to completion, in system improvement and upgrade projects that impact his area of responsibility.”

Cantrell is responsible for all above-ground maintenance for the utility, including Spartanburg Water’s 12 Ice Houses. He is committed to protecting public health and being a good steward of the environment, Walden said.

The Blue Ridge Foothills District is one of 10 regional districts of the WEASC. The district includes Spartanburg, Greenville, Pickens, Oconee and Anderson counties. Annually, members are selected for outstanding service in categories as defined by the WEASC. These individuals are now eligible to receive awards from the state organization in March.
