Job Skills / Requirements

Accurately locates and marks distribution water mains and water service lines throughout the Distribution System Service area; locates and marks various other items such as meter boxes, valve boxes, manholes, air valve vaults, etc. in accordance with the provisions of the South Carolina Underground Utility Damage Prevention Act.

Accurately locates and marks collection lines and force mains throughout the Collection System Service area; locates and marks various other items such as air valve vaults and manholes, etc. in accordance with the provisions of the South Carolina Underground Utility Damage Prevention Act.

Utilizes various types of machinery and equipment, including a computer, utility vehicle, pipe horn service line locator, metro-tech main line locator, electronic valve box locator, electronic leak detection equipment, various construction hand tools, marking paint, marking flags, stakes, etc.

Receives, review, processes and prepares various documents and reports, such as location request tickets, work orders, investigative reports, etc.

Communicates and interacts effectively with immediate supervisor, co-workers, other utility companies, customers, etc.

Provides periodic field checks, after original locate, to verify utilities encroachment procedures are not violated; reports any non-complaint conditions to immediate supervisor.

Investigates all damages to Spartanburg Water infrastructure and facilities, in area of responsibility, to determine liability.

Informs appropriate personnel of needed changes to the Mapping System concerning updates and dimensional information.

Digs out valve and meter boxes when necessary.

Performs other related duties as required.

Education Requirements (Any)

High School diploma or equivalent

Additional Information / Benefits

Requires a High School diploma, or equivalent, and minimum six months of practical experience through progressive training in a water distribution or sanitary sewer system; or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required skills, knowledge and abilities. Must possess a valid driver's license.
