Watershed Stewardship
A watershed is an area of land where all water drains over or under the land on its way to a common point, like a river, lake or ocean. The primary function of a watershed is to capture, store and release water.

One fact about watersheds that connects all of us is that we all live in one. Whether you live in a large city, a small town, in the mountains or by the ocean, you live in a watershed. What would happen if an individual dumped oil into a stream that feeds the South Pacolet River? Did you know that that oil would eventually flow into Lake Bowen? Because we all live in different areas of a watershed, it is important to understand that the actions we make upstream can directly impact those who live downstream. And, the actions that others make upstream can affect us downstream.
