Tours

Spartanburg Water offers four tours of water and wastewater facilities located throughout the region. To learn more, simply pick the facilities that interest you most.

Water and wastewater facility tours - tour criteria

Water TreatmentTo ensure the safety of our guests the following criteria will apply for tours of the Blalock Water Treatment Facility and Fairforest Reclaimed Water Facility:
• 6 years and under - One adult per child. No more that 8 children at a time.
• 7 to 12 years - One adult per 3 students. No more than 12 children at a time.
• 12 to 16 years - One adult per 5 students. No more than 15 children at a time.
• 16 years and up - One adult per group. No more than 25 people at a time.

Blalock Water Treatment Facility

Blalock Water Filtration Facility• Located in northern Spartanburg county off Highway 221 between Spartanburg and Chesnee
• Tour time is approximately 1 hour
• Targeted at junior high students and above
• Areas for touring at water filtration facility: 12 and under - control center, chemical feed building, and filter building; 13 and up - entire tour of facility

Fairforest Reclaimed Water Facility

Fairforest Reclaimed Water Facility• Located off 295 by-pass
• Tour time is approximately 1 hour
• Targeted at junior high students and above

Water Quality Lab Facility

Water Quality Lab Facility• Located on South Ave
• Covers water and wastewater testing techniques
• Targeted at junior high and high school aged students
• One chaperone for every 8-10 students. No more than 25 students at a time.

Pontoon Classroom

Pontoon ClassroomParticipants in this class receive a guided tour on a pontoon boat while learning about the history and use of Lake Bowen and Lake Blalock. The program focuses on water safety, water conservation, and watershed issues. Additionally, students learn how to take water samples and test for water quality.

   - Water Treatment Process, Distribution and Purification
   - Reclaimed Water Treatment Process, Collection and Recycling
